What is an FFL Transfer?
Federal law requires that all firearms purchased online or across state lines must be shipped to a licensed Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) for transfer. As a licensed FFL dealer in Charlotte, North Carolina, Patton Elite Firearms can receive your firearm and process the legal transfer to you.
This includes completing ATF Form 4473, running an FBI NICS background check, verifying your identity, and ensuring all federal and North Carolina state laws are met before releasing the firearm.
How It Works
Contact Us
Reach out through our contact page to request our FFL information before making your purchase.
Ship to Us
Provide our FFL info to the seller. They ship the firearm to our licensed premises.
Paperwork
Once arrived, come in to complete ATF Form 4473 and present valid photo ID.
Pick Up
After passing the NICS background check, your firearm is ready for pickup.
Transfer Requirements
- ✓Valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, military ID)
- ✓Must be at least 18 for rifles/shotguns, 21 for handguns
- ✓Must pass FBI NICS background check
- ✓Must be a North Carolina resident (or meet state-specific transfer requirements)
- ✓Must not be a prohibited person under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)
Important Notes
- • We will notify you when your firearm arrives and is ready for pickup.
- • Firearms not picked up within 30 days may be subject to additional storage fees.
- • If a background check is delayed, we will hold the firearm until a determination is made (up to 3 business days, per federal regulation).
- • We reserve the right to refuse any transfer at our discretion.
- • NFA items (suppressors, SBRs, etc.) have additional requirements and wait times.
